After taking a ferry trip to the fortress where Verath’s phylactery is kept, the Collectors made their way inside, deceiving some of the guards while fighting through others and a multi-headed watch dog. Once inside, they dealt with some additional guards, navigated complicated hallways, and overcame several deadly puzzle rooms. After solving the final puzzle, the inner chamber was unlocked. Inside, the party was met by a large contingent of well-armed guards who had the party on the defensive until Nayte used his psychic scream spell to stop them in their tracks.
With the guards dealt with, they approached the locked chest inside the chamber. Embedded stones and empty sockets covering the outside of the chest led the Collectors to the realization that they must place their ioun stones into the vacant slots. When the final stone was placed, the chest unlocked. Inside was Verath’s phylactery – his undead (yet still beating) heart. Boris placed the heart on the floor of the chamber and smashed it with his hammer, destroying it.
With the Phylactery destroyed, the group returned to the village where the Keepers were last seen and prepared for the final confrontation with Verath.
